Twice a year, many double-coated dogs “blow” their coat and the fur seems to be everywhere. You can't stop shedding entirely—it's natural—but you can manage it dramatically.
Why it happens
As the seasons change, dogs shed their old undercoat to make way for a new one. Spring and fall are the big ones. Trying to shave a double coat to “fix” shedding usually backfires—that coat insulates against both heat and cold.
Keep it under control
- Brush often with an undercoat rake or de-shedding tool.
- Book a professional de-shed treatment—a bath, blow-out and thorough rake that removes loose undercoat by the handful.
- Support skin and coat from the inside with good nutrition and plenty of water.
A single de-shed appointment at the start of the season can save you weeks of vacuuming. Ask us about adding one to your dog's next visit.
